The Heartbeat of Fashion
For Matt, it started with a love affair of shopping the local vintage shops in his Midwestern hometown. Inspired by the colors, textures and shapes of vintage fashions, he graduated with a BA in Merchandising, Apparel, and Textiles from the University of Kentucky.
In the summer of 2005, an internship with LVMH brands in New York City shifted his vantage point into the worlds of trend forecasting, print design and most importantly vintage archiving.
During this time, he had the opportunity to work with leading design teams and industry leaders allowing him to fully understand the creative process, while curating his distinct viewpoint within the fast changing global market. In 2011, he founded D. Matt Smith, a vehicle for his fashion-forward vision translated through a collection of vintage garments, prints and techniques.
Today, he splits his time between New York City and the Hudson Valley while remaining focused on his tenacity and determination that got him to where he is now. D. Matt Smith is a key partner for design teams from luxury, fast-fashion, and emerging brands around the world.
